Most clinical labs run on business hours — open mid-morning, closed by late afternoon, dark on weekends. That works fine if you can step away from your job whenever a lab order shows up. For everyone else, it turns a ten-minute blood draw into a scheduling problem: take time off, burn a lunch break driving across town, or keep putting it off.

That last one is what usually happens. Lab orders sit on refrigerators for weeks because there was never a convenient time to go.

Yes, you can get blood work done on a Saturday

Advance Medical Lab in Mission is open Saturday from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM, walk-ins welcome — no appointment needed. Weekday hours run 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

Saturday availability isn't standard in the lab world. Many labs in the Valley close entirely on weekends, and those that do open often run limited hospital-outpatient hours that end before most people finish breakfast. The other option nobody mentions: before work

If your weekend is already spoken for, the early weekday window solves the same problem. We open at 7:00 AM Monday through Friday — early enough to walk in, get drawn, and still make it to work on time for most schedules.

Early morning is also the least crowded time of day, and most visits take 15 to 20 minutes from check-in to walking out. If your workday starts at 8:00 or later and you work anywhere near Mission, a before-work draw is usually faster than trying to fit one in mid-day.

Fasting labs and timing

Some tests — lipid panels and certain glucose tests among them — require fasting for 8 to 12 hours beforehand. That's exactly why early slots matter: you sleep through most of the fast and get drawn before breakfast instead of white-knuckling it until an afternoon appointment.

Both the 7:00 AM weekday window and Saturday morning work well for fasting draws. If you're not sure whether your test requires fasting, check with the provider who ordered it, or call us and we can tell you what the test on your order typically requires.

What to bring

Same rules as any visit:

  • Using insurance? Bring your doctor's order, your insurance card, and a photo ID.
  • Paying out of pocket? Just a photo ID. Self-pay patients don't need a doctor's order — you can request tests directly and we'll go over pricing before anything is collected.

Do results take longer on a Saturday?

Most routine panels are processed in-house, and same-day processing applies to Saturday draws the same as weekdays. Some specialized tests get sent to a reference laboratory, which adds turnaround time regardless of which day your sample was collected. If timing matters for your situation, ask when you check in and we'll tell you what to expect for your specific tests.
